The program
Project Astra is an AI research prototype from Google DeepMind. It first launched in 2024. The blind and low-vision (BLV) community responded with overwhelming support to build something tailored for them.
To do this responsibly, we partnered with Aira, a visual interpreting service that provides expert human visual interpreters to users who are BLV.
Today, we're pleased to offer the Project Astra Visual Interpreter prototype, in Aira's app. Trusted Testers can experiment with the Visual Interpreter, while enjoying the highest level of safety: every session is supervised by Aira professionals.
